South Beach Miami

Our Miami getaway was the perfect start to our Royal Caribbean cruise on Allure of the Seas! Instead of the usual one-night stay (to make sure you don’t miss the boat 😱), we decided to enjoy Miami for two nights before our cruise.

We began with a quick 2 1/2 hour Southwest flight and a spacious sprinter van ride to the charming Beacon Hotel on South Beach. Its prime location—right across from the beach and near iconic spots like the Scarface filming site—made it a perfect base for our pre-cruise adventure. Plus, having a CVS next door was super convenient! Pro-tip: large vans have to pick you up in the departure area of Miami Airport because they are too big for the arrivals area.

Our days were filled with delicious meals at the hotel (breakfast included) and restaurants on Ocean Drive, shopping at the outdoor Lincoln Road Mall (the girls were especially thrilled about the Brandy Melville store), and relaxing beach time with hotel-provided chairs. Renting an umbrella on the beach for the day for just $20 was a great deal!

Evenings were lively with an amazing dinner at Ocean Bistro at the Cavalier Hotel (the staff was super friendly and went above and beyond to accommodate our large party of 11!), a vibrant stroll down Ocean Drive with live shows, exotic animals and people-watching, and a captivating fire twirler performance on the beach.
